I have a PhD in Journalism Studies and have published a number of journal articles, book chapters and academic textbooks. I have 20 years’ experience lecturing and external examining at undergraduate and postgraduate level across a range of UK universities.

Research and teaching

  • I am currently a senior lecturer in journalism at Sheffield Hallam University. I previously worked as subject group leader for journalism and PR, managing a team of 20+ staff.

    I have also held lecturing positions at The University of Sheffield, De Montfort University, Goldsmiths University, Derby University and Solent University.

    I have been an undergraduate and postgraduate external examiner for a number of university courses and I was previously an NCTJ examiner.
